Luigi Terruso
Biography
Luigi Terruso is a noted contemporary artist based in South Kent, Connecticut. Born in Brooklyn in 1964, Terruso began his painting career as a student and apprentice of the abstract expressionists Milton Resnick and Pat Passlof. Receiving his MFA from the Yale School of Art in 1994, he has exhibited at the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the National Academy Museum, and throughout the East Coast and internationally. He has been a visiting artist at the American Academy in Rome three times and twice an artist-in-residence at the Santa Fe Art Institute, among other honors. With 42 group and solo exhibitions to his credit, The Soft Star is his first exhibition with The Gallery at Merritt Hall. Forthcoming exhibitions include Irresistible Impulse at The Driscoll Babcock Gallery in Chelsea opening October 27th, 2016. Also scheduled is the Professional Artists Exhibition in December 2016 in New York at the Century Association (of which he is an artist member). He is an avid traveler, having explored over 40 countries. Most recently Terruso created pop-up studios near Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia and in a mountain village outside of Cuenca, Ecuador where he worked for extended periods. Since 2000, he has hosted twice-yearly workshops for adults with developmental disabilities at his studios in Connecticut as well as in New York City.
